JEFFERSON PARISH, LA – The man investigators said killed former NFL player Joe McKnight has been indicted on second-degree murder.
The Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office announced the indictment against 55-year-old Ronald Gasser on Thursday.
Authorities said McKnight, a former New York Jets running back, was killed on Dec. 1 after a road-rage incident with Gasser.
Investigators said McKnight’s car may have cut off Gasser’s car on the highway. Gasser started chasing McKnight’s car. At some point, authorities believe McKnight got out of his car and approached Gasser. That’s when they say Gasser shot and killed McKnight.
Authorities originally arrested Gasser for manslaughter, and continued to gather evidence.
As a result of the upgraded charges, his bail has been increased to $750,000.
